About TruckerCalc
TruckerCalc started with a spreadsheet and a frustration.
My background is in professional equity research on publicly traded trucking and logistics companies — analyzing carrier financials, cost structures, load economics, and what separates a profitable operation from one that’s bleeding money without knowing it. I spent a significant amount of time getting deep into the numbers that drive this industry from the top down. Revenue per mile, operating ratios, fuel hedging strategies, driver turnover costs — the metrics that Wall Street uses to evaluate whether a trucking company is actually running well.
What I kept noticing was a gap. The big carriers had analysts, CFOs, and entire financial teams running these numbers every day. The independent owner-operator had a napkin and a gut feeling.
That didn’t sit right with me. The math that makes a trucking business profitable isn’t complicated — it’s just not easy to find in one place, explained plainly, with tools that actually do the calculation for you. Most of what’s out there is either buried in a forum thread, locked behind a paid course, or written for a corporate fleet manager rather than a single driver running their own authority.
So I built TruckerCalc.
What’s Here
Every calculator and guide on TruckerCalc is built around one idea — owner-operators deserve the same quality of financial information that the big carriers take for granted.
The free calculators cover the numbers that matter most day to day: fuel cost per trip, cost per mile, load profitability, and owner-operator readiness. The guides cover everything from reading a rate confirmation to understanding deadhead miles, IFTA filings, health insurance options, and what a genuinely good rate per mile looks like in today’s market — not two years ago.
Everything is free. No email required. No course to buy. No sales pitch at the end.
Who It’s For
TruckerCalc is built for owner-operators and independent contractors who want to run their operation like a business. Whether you’re still driving for a carrier and evaluating whether going independent makes financial sense, in the process of getting your own authority, or already running your own truck and looking to tighten your margins — the tools and guides here are built with your situation in mind.
If you make your living behind the wheel and you want clearer numbers to make better decisions, this site is for you.
Why It’s Free
Owner-operators already take on enormous financial risk — equipment, fuel, insurance, maintenance, and the constant pressure of finding the next load. The last thing a driver needs is to pay $197 for a course just to find out what their real cost per mile is.
The calculators and guides on TruckerCalc will always be free. The site is supported by advertising, not by selling you something.
