How to Use the Fuel Log Template
The template captures the basic information every fuel purchase should record: date, location, odometer reading, gallons purchased, price per gallon, and total cost. Enter any combination of gallons and price and the total calculates automatically. Enter odometer readings on consecutive fills and the MPG calculates row by row.
For IFTA tracking, toggle on IFTA Mode. A State column appears, and a summary section at the bottom totals gallons purchased in each state. That's the number you need for your quarterly IFTA filing. Use the standard two-letter state codes (TX, OK, AR, and so on).
Why a Fuel Log Matters More Than Most Drivers Realize
Beyond IFTA compliance, a good fuel log gives you visibility into the operating cost that matters most. Diesel is typically the single largest expense for an owner-operator, often running 30 to 40 percent of total revenue. Print Mode vs Interactive Mode
Some drivers prefer paper. The template is designed to print cleanly on standard 8.5x11 paper in landscape orientation, with header fields for driver name, truck number, quarter, and starting odometer.
